What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about seeing your in-laws every day for three months? Well lucky for me, we love spending time together and it came with a gratifying home redesign!
My daughter and her soon-to-be husband have been together for nearly 10 years now, so suffice to say that we know her fiancé’s parents very well by now. We also know their home very well which is why when they decided to give it a fresh redesign, they trusted me to take over the project.
When we started the process, we knew that this had to be more than just a facelift for the kitchen. In order to make this whole house function, we had to rework most of the first floor to make the best use of all of the space. This involved moving walls, creating a new layout for the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and living room, and even a reworking of the outdated primary bedroom.
We started this renovation by opening up the secluded dining room to become a fully-integrated part of the floor plan. We knocked down the wall separating the two rooms, and instantly there was more potential. With this additional space, we were able to add a peninsula with seating and free up an entire wall for pantry space.
When choosing the final finishings for their kitchen, we knew we had to pick materials that were subtle, but still tasteful. To achieve this, we paired a lighter wall cabinet paint with a darker base cabinet. To tie it together, we added an accent wall of stained hickory pantry cabinets. The final details came with Cambria’s Colton countertop and Tilebar’s White Portmore throughout the kitchen and Amadora Daiza as an accent above the range.
The bathroom makeover was particularly fun because the homeowners wanted to give it the aura of their own mini spa. We used clean lines combined with high functionality in every corner of the space to give them the vibes they were looking for. The rain showerhead, floating toilet, and pebble-textured floor are some of the highlights of this relaxing space. I know where I would like to spend my mornings!
